About Lean Meditation

A simple way to experience center, direction, and return.

Lean Meditation is a gentle seated or standing awareness practice. You move among neutral, forward, back, left, right, up, and down, then notice how each small change affects balance, breathing, effort, emotion, and attention. The aim is not to stretch as far as possible; it is to make each direction distinct and return to center with care.

You might use this practice when you feel mentally stuck, physically restless, or disconnected from your posture. Slow, deliberate shifts give attention a simple task and may help you recognize where you brace, collapse, or habitually favor one side. Keep every movement comfortable and small enough that breathing remains easy.

The practice has relatives in tai chi and qigong, the Alexander Technique, and Feldenkrais-style sensory learning, all of which use attentive movement and alignment. Modern balance research also studies proprioception—the sense of body position—and the integration of visual, vestibular, and body-sensation signals. Lean Meditation is a wellness exercise, not medical treatment.
